Gain Licence
As in learning to drive a car, there are a number of requirements to be met before gaining your licence. You have to fly a certain number of hours - so many have to be solo. You have to take and pass a skills test - similar to a driving test. There are also a number of theory examinations to be passed. This may sound a little daunting, but fear not - Cabair Flying Schools will guide you through. We guarantee, you will enjoy every minute - even the exams!

For details of what the courses entail, go to our Datasheets section where you can download the info you require.

Private Pilot's Licence The NPPL - National PPL
There is an alternative licence called an NPPL which is less stringent in its requirements - i.e. fewer hours required. However, it only allows you to fly in the UK. See the NPPL Datasheet for details.

Age
There is currently no minimum age for dual instruction, but any received before the age of 14 is not countable towards the PPL. Whilst a student may fly as Pilot in Command from their 16th birthday and only in accordance with a qualified flying instructor, a student may not apply for a PPL licence issue until they are 17 years old.

I want to fly now! Options It's true. Flying is cool. Though pilots wear sunglasses because of the brightness up there in the clouds.
